LVP is the number one selling flooring in LA for 2026. It is waterproof, scratch-resistant, and costs 5 to 10 dollars per sqft installed. Modern LVP is virtually indistinguishable from real hardwood.
Waterproof (unlike hardwood), scratch-resistant (pets and kids), affordable ($5-$10/sqft vs $10-$20 for hardwood), realistic wood-look prints, easy maintenance, and DIY-friendly click-lock installation. It works over concrete slabs (common in LA homes), over radiant heat, and in wet areas (kitchens, bathrooms, laundry).
Thin (4-5mm): budget option, feels hollow underfoot, shorter lifespan. Not recommended. Standard (6-7mm): good balance of feel and price. Adequate for most residential use. Premium (8-12mm): feels like real hardwood, includes attached cork/EVA underlayment, quieter underfoot, 25+ year warranty. Worth the $1-$2/sqft premium.
COREtec: industry leader, excellent warranties, wide style range. Shaw Floorté: reliable, good value. Mohawk RevWood: hybrid category (WPC core with real wood texture). Mannington Adura: premium look and feel. All available through NP Line Design's trade accounts at contractor pricing.
Works everywhere: living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, basements, over concrete, over radiant heat. Doesn't work: outdoors (UV degrades the print), under heavy commercial equipment (point loads can dent). Caution: direct sunlight through large windows can cause expansion — use window treatments and leave proper expansion gaps.
Click-lock floating: fastest ($2-$3/sqft labor), no glue, removable if needed. Glue-down: most stable, reduces hollow sound, preferred for commercial or high-traffic ($3-$4/sqft labor). Loose-lay: pressure-sensitive backing, easiest DIY. For NP Line Design installations: we use click-lock with attached underlayment for the best combination of speed, stability, and comfort.
